Making Talos Awakes: Head repair & remodelling

Making Talos Awakes: Head repair & remodelling

Making Talos Awakes – Part 4 of 20

First, I made wax repairs to significant and extensive cracks in Talos’ neck as you can see in the photos on the right and below.

I then turned my attention to his face, helmet and plume.

Deterioration of the face, helmet and plume

There was extensive cracking to Talos’ face, particularly to his nose and beard, and pits in his cheeks (right).

The helmet-rim and plume had suffered significant deterioration, and a small section of beard had cracked and moved out of alignment.

Before starting the facial remodelling I corrected the fault in the beard with a tiny transplant (far right).

Facial remodelling

Paying close attention to film footage to determine the required form, I filled and reshaped the face. The nose required particular attention to regain its original crispness, as seen in Jason and the Argonauts. I felt that faithfully re-establishing Talos’ facial features was critical as they convey so much of his character.

I also repaired missing sections of the helmet rim and plume, and splits beneath the lower lip and under the left side of the helmet rim.
